The Northern Consortium is made up of eight distinct rural touring schemes in the North of England
Arts Alive vision is to make Shropshire and Herefordshire the most culturally vibrant counties in England for rural touring. Arts Alive and Flicks in the Sticks enrich rural communities and the lives of those living within them by giving everyone in our area the opportunity to participate in high quality film and live events. Supported by Arts Council England and the BFI Programming Development Fund for their support.
Kirkgate Arts Out West is the Rural Touring arm of Kirkgate Arts and Heritage serving a large area of West Cumbria from North to South. We work with volunteers in village halls and other venues, including libraries, providing local audiences with quality professional performances of music, drama and dance. We are affiliated to the National Rural Touring Forum, helping to ensure we have access to the very best national and international talent who are touring England. Supported by Arts Council England as a National Portfolio Organisation in partnership with neighbouring Rural Touring organisation, Penrith-based Highlights Rural Touring Scheme.
Blaize aims to make a positive contribution to our modern-day society and beyond. We believe that everyone should have access to the arts and live entertainment and we champion diversity in artists, performances and audiences. As a community arts organisation, we feel it is our responsibility to create a welcoming environment where the breadth and diversity of cultural expression is recognised, valued and celebrated. Which is why we deliver the very best of theatre, music, dance, and entertainment straight to YOUR community. With a little bit of work, we can transform your village hall into a top notch venue to rival the O2!
LiveLincs and ArtERY are rural touring schemes that operate in the North Lincolnshire and East Riding of Yorkshire areas, respectively. Both schemes are supported by their respective councils and are managed by Blaize. LiveLincs works with a network of local promoters to bring a curated programme of high-quality, professional artists sourced nationally and internationally to North Lincolnshire village halls and community venues. The ArtERY scheme operates in a similar way, bringing performances and events to rural areas throughout East Riding in Yorkshire. Both schemes play an important role, contributing to the development and sustainability of rural communities by providing access to cultural experiences, supporting local artists, and promoting community engagement.
Cheshire Rural Touring Arts (CRTA) works across Cheshire’s rural communities promoting and delivering high quality professional theatre, dance, music and children’s shows over two seasons each year. Our events are made possible by the 100 community volunteers who deliver these arts services in their communities. Our promoters work so hard because they love live arts events, and in turn they provide work for professional companies and support their local economy. The project is supported with government investment via Arts Council England, additional financial support from Cheshire West and Chester and Cheshire East Councils.
Highlights presents vibrant, entertaining and thought-provoking cultural activities to enrich the lives of people in rural communities across the north of England. We engage with a diverse range of artists, companies and creative practitioners; supports a network of grassroots volunteers to programme varied creative events in village halls and community spaces; prioritise communities who have limited access to professional cultural work; works with schools and community groups to deliver events and participatory activities; help increase the profile of rural touring across the north of England.
Spot On is Lancashire’s rural and library touring network. Managed by Culturapedia, an arts project management business, the Spot On network consists of volunteer community promoters and library staff who host high quality professional arts events in their local venues. These promoters are enthusiastic people who love the arts and who want to bring live arts performances to their community. They share the same passion of wanting to give everyone the chance of a good night out on their doorstep and, like an arts centre, an audience can choose to see dance, music, theatre, storytelling and children’s shows. We promote approx 60 shows a year in villages and libraries across Lancashire, from Arkholme to Aughton and from the coast to the moors.
